Overview

Responsibilities:

  • Create and edit system documentation according to established standards, including printed materials, electronic help, and other forms of documentation
  • Collaborate with content experts to learn about systems
  • Work with project managers and engineers to improve the usability of documentation
  • Research new solutions to improve existing processes
  • Independently and successfully lead project documentation through release
  • Make decisions necessary to deliver quality documentation in a timely fashion, and either drive immediate action or escalate to business owners when appropriate
  • Evaluate and propose mitigation and contingency plans for documentation project risks
  • Define and foster innovative solutions, processes, and tools to increase efficiency and high levels of quality
  • Work effectively across groups within department and other NI documentation groups
  • Strong track record of designing and implementing complex documentation to a high level of quality

Required Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, or other major with writing-intensive component and/or science/technology emphasis
  • Excellent written language skills in English
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in technical writing where core job responsibilities have focus on writing or editing of technology-related subject matter
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills - must provide samples of excellent writing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with ability to handle multiple projects and priorities
  • Strong track record of designing and implementing complex documentation to a high level of quality
  • Persistence and initiative to learn
  • Strong interest in and comfortable with a wide range of technology subject matter
  • Familiarity with standard technical writing tools and content management systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work effectively in a distributed group environment
  • Ability to work on projects independently
  • Highly desirable: Experience with DITA authoring and publishing, structured documentation (especially in Adobe FrameMaker), and content management systems.
