An online media platform Chai Media is looking for an Accountant (working remotely) who will be responsible for managing the financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, preparing financial reports, and providing financial advice to support the organization’s mission and objectives. Chai Media is an Armenian legal representative for Chai Khana – an online media platform that covers the countries of the South Caucasus through human-driven stories through supporting local journalists, documentary filmmakers and photographers.

Responsibilities:

Financial Management:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable and receivable and payroll;
  • Ensure proper recording of all financial transactions in accordance with relevant accounting standards and organizational policies;
  • Serve as the contact person for the bank regarding transaction issues, currency exchange, and bank statements;
  • Provide bank statements and bank transaction documents when necessary.

Financial Reporting:
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements;
  • Ensure timely submission of financial reports to management, donors, and relevant stakeholders.

Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic budget revisions;
  • Monitor budget implementation and variance analysis to provide insights into financial performance.

Compliance and Audit:
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including tax filings and regulatory reporting;
  • Support external audits by preparing necessary documents, and schedules, and responding to auditor queries (if necessary).

Internal Controls:
  • Develop and maintain internal financial controls to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting;
  • Conduct periodic reviews of internal controls and recommend improvements where necessary.

Financial Advice:
  • Provide financial analysis and advice to support strategic decision-making by the management and board of directors;
  • Assist in developing financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.

Deliverables
  • Monthly financial reports (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements);
  • Project-based reports (expenses, tax payments and currency exchanges) according to the financial documents already available;
  • Annual financial statements prepared in accordance with relevant accounting standards;
  • Recommendations for strengthening internal controls and financial policies;
  • Feedback and explanations on the Armenian taxing system and tax legislation on each transaction as instructed by the director, or a supervisor.

The accountant will report on a weekly basis to the Executive Director and a Project Manager and provide regular updates on financial status, key issues, and recommendations.
Required Qualifications:
  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a professional accounting certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is preferred;
  • Good knowledge of English;
  • Excellent knowledge of Armenian tax legislation;
  • At least 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably in the non-profit sector;
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial management, and relevant regulations;
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel);
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
