Overview

We are looking for an experienced Amazon Cloud Native Python Developer to join our team working on an internally developed, event-driven platform built on AWS serverless technologies.

This role is ideal for an engineer experienced in event-driven systems built on AWS integration tools, or an Operations expert skilled in AWS, DynamoDB, and OpenSearch. The team owns the architecture, infrastructure, and end-to-end testing strategy, so engineers are expected to work effectively within an established codebase and set of engineering conventions rather than focusing solely on greenfield development.

Responsibilities:
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Make sound technical decisions and justify trade-offs
  • Navigate and contribute to complex distributed systems
  • Influence architectural direction, not just implement requirements
  • Design, build, and maintain event-driven services running on AWS serverless infrastructure
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and document design choices
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code
  • Ensure reliability, scalability, and operational excellence across services
  • Write and maintain automated end-to-end tests
  • Collaborate with other engineers to evolve platform capabilities and engineering standards
Required Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of relevant professional experience with Python as a primary development language
  • Solid understanding of AWS architecture, including VPCs, networking fundamentals, and multi-account environments
  • Knowledge of AWS security, operational best practices, and how AWS services integrate within larger systems
  • Hands-on experience with AWS Lambda, event-driven application design, and production operation of serverless workloads
  • Expertise in messaging and integration patterns, with experience designing and operating systems using EventBridge, SQS, and SNS
  • Understanding of asynchronous communication patterns and distributed system design principles
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK, ideally in TypeScript (application code is primarily Python; infrastructure is defined in TypeScript)
  • Deep operational and architectural expertise in DynamoDB, including single-table design, access-pattern-driven modelling, and GSIs/LSIs
  • Competency in DynamoDB capacity planning and capacity modes, Streams, and TTL
  • Skills in DynamoDB Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR), operational monitoring, and troubleshooting beyond basic CRUD operations
  • Strong understanding of distributed data consistency, including ACID vs. BASE trade-offs, eventual consistency, and implications of consistency models in DynamoDB and event-driven architectures
  • Background in designing and operating event-driven microservice architectures, covering service boundaries, event contracts, failure handling, and scalability/resiliency
  • Capability to evaluate multiple design approaches, make informed architectural decisions, and drive technical direction independently while clearly communicating and documenting trade-offs
  • Experience with automated testing strategies, including end-to-end testing, with familiarity with BDD frameworks such as Behave being highly desirable
  • Qualifications in data modelling and validation using JSON Schema, Pydantic, or similar frameworks
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English (B2+ level)
Benefits:
  • Delivering innovative solutions to industry leaders, making a global impact
  • Enjoyable working environment, whether it is the vibrant office or the comfort of your home
  • Opportunity to work abroad for up to two months per year
  • Relocation opportunities within our offices in 55+ countries
  • Corporate and social events
  • Leadership development, career advising, soft skills and well-being programs
  • Certifications, including GCP, Azure and AWS
  • Unlimited access to EPAM's internal learning database
  • Free English classes with certified teachers
  • Participation in the Employee Stock Purchase Plan
  • Monetary bonuses for engaging in the referral program
  • Comprehensive medical & family care package
  • Four trust days per year for personal needs
  • Discounts for fitness clubs
  • Benefits package (hotels, restaurants, stores and services)
Nice To Have:
  • OpenSearch development and operational experience
  • Skills in application profiling and memory optimization
  • Background in monitoring and operating high-volume, mission-critical systems
  • Expertise in API design and implementation
  • Familiarity with GraphQL
  • Python.Core
  • Amazon DynamoDB
  • Amazon Web Services
  • OpenSearch
  • Serverless
