The British Embassy in Armenia is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas, and is now looking for a Economic Projects Officer to join the Embassy team, based in Yerevan.

The Economics Projects Officer will be assisting in the management of economic project work and partnerships in the Embassy, providing support to regional sanctions objectives and contributing to economic analysis to better understand how the UK can support economic development in Armenia.

The jobholder will spend approximately 75% of their time on Economic Projects and Analysis, and 25% on Sanctions. The FCDO operates an agile workforce and to facilitate this, the Economics Projects Officer may be required to undertake other duties from time to time, as we may reasonably require.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and oversee the implementation of the economic and sanctions projects, liaising with implementers, beneficiaries, and relevant authorities to ensure impact and Value for Money, alongside compliance with FCDO standards and priorities.

  • Monitor progress, delivery of outputs and programme outcomes, employing adaptive management to secure impact. Provide advice to project implementers on financial and reporting requirements. Respond to requests from the UK and the regional Hub in Tbilisi.

  • Facilitate monitoring, evaluation and lessons learning, including working with implementers and colleagues to adapt informed by ongoing contextual and political economy analysis.

  • Follow and report on economic and sanctions developments, alerting seniors to risks and identifying possible mitigation.

  • Develop relationships with partners and maintain your network to support engagement and understanding of emerging opportunities.

  • Maintain and update relevant stakeholder mapping, briefing products and support engagement. Liaise with colleagues on economic and sanctions issues to ensure a joined up approach that delivers UK objectives.

  • Contribute to Embassy and regional planning processes. Contributing to economic analysis alongside the regional Economic Adviser and advising on project selection that best delivers the Embassy’s Country Business Plan in collaboration with wider Embassy colleagues.

  • Ensure effective use of communications to support and promote outcomes as appropriate. Support external communications in relation to the UK sanctions regime.

  • In liaison with policy delivery team colleagues, organise and take part in events and visits by His Majesty’s Ambassador and Embassy colleagues related to projects. Contribute to the planning and delivery of public diplomacy activities related to economic development, stakeholders and UK funded projects.

  • Manage project data, ensuring appropriate storage of project materials and updating Embassy Teams site.

  • Arrange visits for colleagues not based in Armenia organising meetings and visit programmes. Provide Armenian/Russian - English interpretation services including on visits within Armenia and regionally.
Required Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English, Armenian and Russian (Minimum of C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages);
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience working in international development programmes;
  • Experience of reporting, working with implementers and ensuring compliance;
  • Experience of or a qualification in economics or economic development, and awareness of UK sanctions policy;
  • Experience of or willingness to learn about the FCDO Programme Operating Framework (PrOF) and apply it consistently;
  • Interest in and understanding of international affairs, and UK politics and policy;
  • High-quality communications and drafting skills. Proven ability to work autonomously, support others and deliver results, including in a fast-paced and changing environment;
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills;
  • A track record of carefully managing sensitive information in a professional environment;
  • Strong IT skills with the aptitude to adopt and utilise new tools.



Desirable qualifications, skills and experience:
  • Experience of adaptive management and political economy analysis tools;
  • Previous sanctions policy experience.
