Overview
Responsibilities:
- Carefully operate smelting furnaces, control temperatures, add the right fluxes, prepare crucibles and molds, and pour doré bars to high standards so the gold bars come out clean and correct
- Clean and prepare precipitates from the Merrill-Crowe process, separate slag, and get materials ready for smelting
- Weigh, label, sample, and carefully track all gold materials and finished bars, following strict security and chain-of-custody rules at all times
- Keep the gold room equipment clean (crucibles, molds, furnace areas, ventilation) and immediately report any problems or wear to the Supervisor
- Always follow every safety rule and procedure exactly—especially when working with hot metal, chemicals, or in high-risk situations—and use the correct PPE every time
- Do pre-shift and post-shift checks to make sure the area is clean, organized, safe, and ready for the next shift
- Help keep accurate records of weights, pours, materials used, and any events in the logs and systems so everything can be checked and accounted for
- Join daily safety talks and toolbox meetings, speak up about any hazards or near-misses right away, and show Visible Felt Leadership by staying alert and helping keep the team safe
- Work closely with the Supervisor to learn and improve—ask questions, follow guidance, and do every task the right way
- Assist during shutdowns or cleaning periods by helping remove residues, cool equipment safely, and prepare for any maintenance work
- Maintain excellent housekeeping and personal standards in the secure gold room area at all times
Required Qualifications:
- Reliable, trustworthy, and honest
- Very detail-oriented with good attention to following steps exactly and noticing small things that matter
- Strong commitment to safety—takes rules seriously, never shortcuts, and looks out for themselves and others
- Willing and able to learn new skills quickly through on-site training from the Supervisor
- Comfortable working in a hot, secure environment with full PPE (including respiratory protection when needed)
- Physically able to handle moderate lifting (crucibles, molds), stand for long periods, and work in warm conditions
- Able to read, understand, and follow written instructions, safety procedures, and SOPs
- Basic English language skills would be beneficial
- Previous experience in gold processing or gold room not required—priority is attitude, reliability, and careful work habits
- Basic mechanical aptitude or experience in process operations (e.g., furnace, chemical handling, or high-temperature work) is a plus but not essential
- Current driver’s license advantageous but not required
