Overview
We are looking for a Mechanical Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership across the design, development, implementation, commissioning, and operation of mechanical and HVAC systems within our infrastructure. The role will have a strong focus on HVAC, cooling, ventilation, and other critical mechanical systems, ensuring they are designed and operated to meet the highest standards of reliability, efficiency, safety, and performance. The Mechanical Principal Engineer will serve as a senior technical authority, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors, consultants, and equipment vendors.
- Lead the design, development, and technical review of HVAC, cooling, ventilation, and other mechanical systems.
- Develop and review engineering calculations, equipment selections, specifications, layouts, and technical solutions.
- Ensure HVAC and mechanical systems are appropriately sized, integrated, and optimized for operational requirements.
- Review system performance, thermal requirements, cooling capacity, redundancy, and energy efficiency.
- Act as the principal technical authority for mechanical and HVAC engineering matters.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to mechanical engineers and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Review and approve mechanical and HVAC designs, calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, best practices, and technical requirements.
- Lead mechanical and HVAC engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through installation, testing, commissioning, and handover.
- Coordinate HVAC and mechanical systems with electrical, MEP, construction, infrastructure, and other engineering disciplines.
- Work closely with contractors, consultants, vendors, and equipment manufacturers to ensure successful project delivery.
- Participate in equipment selection, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, commissioning, and system performance validation.
- Ensure the reliability, availability, maintainability, and efficiency of critical mechanical and HVAC systems.
- Analyze system performance, equipment failures, and operational issues and develop corrective and preventive solutions.
- Identify technical risks and recommend improvements to system redundancy, resilience, energy efficiency, and operational performance.
- Support the development and implementation of preventive maintenance and operational strategies for critical mechanical and HVAC equipment.
- Review and maintain technical documentation, specifications, calculations, drawings, commissioning procedures, and maintenance requirements.
- Ensure mechanical and HVAC systems comply with applicable codes, standards, regulations, safety requirements, and project specifications.
- Support technical evaluations of vendors, equipment, and proposed engineering solutions.
- Provide technical input during project reviews, audits, inspections, and handover activities.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Significant experience in mechanical engineering, with strong expertise in HVAC and cooling systems.
- Proven experience designing, implementing, commissioning, or operating complex mechanical and HVAC systems.
- Strong understanding of HVAC design principles, thermal management, cooling systems, ventilation, pumps, heat exchangers, and related mechanical infrastructure.
- Experience providing technical leadership on complex engineering projects.
- Strong knowledge of applicable engineering codes, standards, and safety requirements.
- Experience working with contractors, consultants, equipment manufacturers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Experience in data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial facilities, or power infrastructure.
- Experience with data center cooling systems, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, cooling towers, dry coolers, heat exchangers, pumps, and associated HVAC infrastructure.
- Experience with high-availability and redundant mechanical systems.
- Experience with commissioning and operational readiness of mission-critical facilities.
- Professional engineering certification or equivalent qualification.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical decision-making skills.
- Ability to review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering and design software.
