Overview
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to lead the delivery of mechanical infrastructure projects supporting Firebird AI’s AI data center.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning and execution of mechanical infrastructure projects across the AI data center campus.
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, and deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate mechanical installation, testing, commissioning, and project handover activities.
- Ensure project milestones are achieved while maintaining quality, safety, and reliability standards.
- Support the delivery of mission-critical cooling systems designed for high-density AI workloads.
- Coordinate activities related to HVAC systems, chilled water systems, cooling distribution, CRAC/CRAH units, pumps, heat exchangers, cooling towers, and other mechanical infrastructure.
- Review mechanical drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, method statements, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with mechanical design consultants, contractors, commissioning teams, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure mechanical systems are designed and installed according to project requirements and operational standards.
- Resolve technical issues that may impact project execution, system performance, or commissioning activities.
- Coordinate mechanical contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers throughout project execution.
- Monitor contractor performance, installation quality, and project progress.
- Support procurement activities, equipment selection, and material delivery planning.
- Manage RFIs, technical submittals, change orders, and engineering clarifications.
- Support mechanical testing, commissioning, and validation of critical facility systems.
- Coordinate functional performance testing and ensure systems meet design requirements.
- Participate in inspections, quality reviews, and acceptance procedures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and project specifications.
- Identify mechanical project risks and implement mitigation plans.
- Support HSE requirements throughout construction and commissioning activities.
- Ensure safe execution of mechanical works within an operational data center environment.
- Prepare project status reports covering progress, risks, costs, and schedules.
- Monitor project milestones, contractor performance, and delivery timelines.
- Escalate risks, delays, technical challenges, and resource requirements.
- Support executive reporting and project governance activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience managing mechanical construction or infrastructure projects, preferably in data centers, industrial facilities, or other mission-critical environments.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, cooling infrastructure, chilled water systems, pumps, heat exchangers, and critical mechanical systems.
- Experience managing mechanical contractors, consultants, and engineering teams.
- Knowledge of mechanical commissioning, testing, and construction processes.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary M&E teams and coordinating interfaces between mechanical and electrical systems.
- Excellent project management, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Nice To Have:
- Experience working on hyperscale data centers or AI infrastructure projects.
- Experience with high-density cooling solutions for GPU-based computing environments.
- Familiarity with international data center standards and commissioning practices.
- Experience with large-scale construction projects involving complex mechanical systems.
