Overview
As a Senior Ruby on Rails Developer, you’ll join the engineering team as a hands-on senior contributor on Tools Portal. You’ll own significant parts of the codebase, raise the bar on code quality and engineering practices, and help shape how the internal tooling evolves.
Client:
A well-established online travel company based in the Netherlands that helps hundreds of thousands of travellers find and book affordable holidays: package deals, flights and hotels at sharp prices. The business runs on its own in-house platform, so engineering decisions have a direct and visible effect on how customers search, compare and book their trips.
Project Overview:
- - Design, build and maintain features in a Rails 8.1 application that serves real customer traffic;
- - Take ownership of key areas of the platform, from design through to production;
- - Contribute to architecture decisions, code reviews and technical planning together with the team;
- - Improve the reliability, performance and maintainability of the platform, including refactoring legacy parts where it pays off;
- - Support deployments, monitoring and production troubleshooting across the current environments;
- - Build and maintain integrations with third-party travel suppliers and internal services;
- - Promote solid engineering practices: automated testing, CI/CD, clear documentation, sensible upgrade paths;
- - Partner with product and business stakeholders to turn requirements into well-scoped technical solutions.
- - 5+ years of commercial experience with Ruby;
- - Strong, hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails in production, including recent versions (Rails 7/8);
- - Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), ideally including running Rails applications on it;
- - Solid knowledge of relational databases and SQL (e.g. PostgreSQL or MySQL);
- - Experience writing automated tests with RSpec or Minitest;
- - A proactive, ownership-driven approach and the ability to work autonomously;
- - Upper-Intermediate English or higher.
- - Experience migrating applications from on-premise infrastructure to the cloud;
- - Experience in travel, e-commerce or booking platforms;
- - Experience with background job processing (Sidekiq, Solid Queue) and caching (Redis, Solid Cache);
- - Hotwire (Turbo/Stimulus) on the frontend;
- - Experience upgrading Rails applications across major versions;
- - Docker and infrastructure as code (Terraform) on GCP;
- - Experience integrating with external APIs (suppliers, payment providers);
- - Experience mentoring or onboarding other engineers;
