About The Team
The Advancement Division is the driving force behind Teach For Armenia’s resource mobilization and external engagement efforts. Comprising two key departments—Development (Fundraising) and Marketing and Communications—the division ensures the organization has the resources and visibility necessary to fulfill its mission. While the Development team focuses on cultivating strategic partnerships and securing funding from private and public sources, the Marketing and Communications team amplifies Teach For Armenia’s impact through consistent messaging, branding, and storytelling. Together, the Advancement Division plays a pivotal role in rallying support for the organization’s programs and initiatives, ensuring educational equity remains a national priority.
The Role:
The Managing Director of Advancement is a pivotal leadership position focused on driving Teach For Armenia’s fundraising efforts and enhancing its external presence. This role is responsible for ensuring the organization meets its ambitious fundraising targets by cultivating and maintaining strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including donors, philanthropic foundations, the public sector, and corporate sponsors. By aligning development initiatives with Teach For Armenia’s mission, the Managing Director of Advancement secures resources necessary to propel the organization’s impact. The Managing Director of Advancement will take the lead on all external partnerships, managing communications and donor relations to strengthen and expand the organization’s impact. As the primary representative of the organization after the CEO, the MD of Advancement will serve as a key face of the organization when engaging with donors, cultivating relationships, and securing strategic partnerships to advance its mission. Finally, the MD of Advancement oversees members of development teams (e.g. Portfolio leads) for Teach For Armenia donors across different revenue streams both in Armenia and Diaspora.
In addition, the Managing Director oversees the Marketing and Communications team, ensuring that the organization’s message resonates with diverse audiences. By amplifying Teach For Armenia’s visibility and thought leadership, the Managing Director attracts greater support and engagement from individuals and institutions alike, strengthening the movement to end educational inequity across Armenia.
Fundraising and Resource Development (40%)
- Lead high-level fundraising efforts by cultivating relationships with large public and private charitable entities, corporate sponsors, and high-net-worth individuals;
- Enable and support the Development team in developing and executing fundraising strategies and action plans, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Marketing, Branding, and Communications (30%)
- Position the Head of Marketing and Communications, as the primary leader for all external communications while providing strategic guidance and support when needed;
- Ensure consistent messaging and branding that enhances Teach For Armenia’s visibility and credibility among diverse stakeholders;
- Ensure that all programs and strategic priorities of the foundation are proactively promoted, so that they receive the appropriate scale of public communication and that outcomes are effectively showcased.
Team Leadership and Development (20%)
- Equip teams with the tools and resources necessary to achieve their goals while providing space for team leaders to drive initiatives independently;
- Foster strong coordination across the Advancement Division, including cross-functional collaboration with other internal teams to ensure seamless management of external relationships;
- Develop and implement robust systems and structures to track key activities, partnerships, and donations, ensuring accountability and efficiency;
- Promote effective project management practices, defining clear ownership and decision-making processes within the division;
- Coach and develop direct reports, ensuring they prioritize actions aligned with organizational objectives and cascade the same guidance to their teams;
- Establish individual performance goals and personalized professional development plans for all team members;
- Enable the team to effectively manage upwards, providing the CEO and the Senior Leadership team with actionable updates and insights on key priorities.
Participating in Org-Wide and Cross-Collaborative Initiatives (10%)
- Actively participate in organization-wide events and initiatives to contribute to the organizational culture and strategic objectives;
- Support cross-functional working groups and projects as needed, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals.

Experience in:
- Fundraising and Partnerships: Proven expertise in developing and executing successful fundraising strategies, including cultivating relationships with high-net-worth individuals, corporate sponsors, the public sector (i.e., bilateral and multilateral funding), and charitable entities. Experience in securing multimillion-dollar funds to support mission-driven initiatives.
- Marketing and Communications: Strong background in overseeing marketing, branding, and communication strategies to enhance organizational visibility and engage diverse stakeholder groups.
- Team Leadership and Management: Proven ability to lead diverse teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and learning. Experienced in managing cross-functional teams and service providers to achieve organizational objectives.
- Strategic Collaboration: Extensive experience collaborating with senior leadership to drive organization-wide strategic initiatives and align efforts across teams.
- Systems and Process Optimization: Proficiency in developing and implementing systems to track key activities, partnerships, and donations. Skilled in promoting effective project management and decision-making processes.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Strong ability to coordinate across internal teams and divisions, ensuring alignment in managing external relationships and advancing organizational priorities.
Additional qualifications:
- A minimum of 7 years of professional experience, with a focus on fundraising and external communications;
- Special consideration will be given to candidates who possess fundraising experience both locally in Armenia as well as across the diaspora;
- 3+ years of experience in leading teams is highly preferred;
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of partners and collaborators;
- Fluency in Armenian, English and Russian both written and verbal;
- A minimum, a Bachelor’s degree is required;
- A meaningful personal connection to the Armenian context is required.
