Overview

We’re hiring a Mid-Level QA Engineer to own quality end-to-end with manual testing first, then introduce pragmatic automation. A major slice of your impact will be data quality for dashboards—ensuring metrics are correct, fresh, and trusted across experiments and funnels.

Responsibilities:
  • Own test planning & execution across web UI (React), APIs (AppSync/GraphQL), and workflows spanning our serverless back end and data layer (BigQuery/DBT).
  • Manual-first: build lean test plans, traceability to acceptance criteria, regression checklists for critical paths (sign-up/login, experiments/checkout-like flows, pricing tests, AI features).
  • Exploratory testing: proactively discover edge cases in event-driven flows, multi-environment behavior, and cache/CDN (CloudFront) nuances.
  • Data-quality checks: verify key aggregations and experiment results against BigQuery.
  • Release readiness: triage issues, drive bug life cycle in Jira, maintain go/no-go criteria, and sign off on deployments.
  • Introduce automation gradually: start with a Playwright/Cypress (or similar) (TypeScript) smoke suite for critical paths; add API tests; wire into Bitbucket CI/CD for PR and nightly runs.
  • Non-deterministic/AI testing: curate gold datasets, define evaluation criteria/tolerances, and add guardrail checks for AI features.
  • Observability & debugging: use CloudWatch logs to isolate defects; support root-cause with engineers.
  • Security tests: manual/automated checks across authN/Z (Cognito/JWT scopes), GraphQL authorization & field-level access, input validation and XSS/CSRF, rate-limit/abuse paths, secure headers (CSP/CORS/HSTS), secrets exposure, and OWASP Top-10 smoke for web/API.
  • Quality culture: champion test data management (PII-safe), risk-based testing, and lightweight documentation that engineers actually use.
Required Qualifications:
  • 3–5 years in QA for modern web apps; strong manual/exploratory testing fundamentals and test design.
  • Solid API testing experience (GraphQL/REST), HTTP basics, auth (JWT/OAuth/Cognito or similar).
  • Hands-on UI automation with Playwright or Cypress (TypeScript/JavaScript), plus Git and CI/CD (preferably Bitbucket pipelines).
  • Comfortable writing SQL for validation (BigQuery is a plus) and reading logs/metrics (CloudWatch/Sentry or similar).
  • Experience working in cloud/serverless contexts or microservices; understands async/event-driven side effects.
